The event is planned to happen at 8:45 PM. Tickets are on sale starting from today, prices start at the level of PLN 90.
During the Wednesday press conference which took place within the Gdansk PGE Arena, the organizers - the PSP Polish Sport Promotion agency together with the Arena Gdansk Operator company have both confirmed the media speculations.
“We can officially confirm that the Juventus F.C. club players are going to visit Poland in order to play a friendly against
Lechia Gdansk We are happy that the Super-Match cycle, after a year, comes back to the PGE Gdansk Arena. This is the stadium where Brazilian football player, Neymar, marked his debut two years ago. We deeply hope that Jul. 29th would also bring a lot of sports-related emotions” - As the President of the PSP Polish Sport Promotion company, Tomasz Rachwoł, stated.
The tickets are already available via the www.booklik.com platform. The organizers have created 4 price categories: Premium - PLN 500, Category: I - PLN 250, Category: II – PLN 150 , Category: III – PLN 90. Price of the ticket for the physically challenged - PLN 40.
“We are extremely proud that PGE ARENA is going to host the super-match again. Back in 2013 we were able to host FC Barcelona - now is the time for us to admire the Italian Juventus which competed against Barcelona in the European Champions League. Juventus is a well-reputed brand - Lechia Gdansk match which such a rival
would certainly enhance the 70th anniversary of the latter club. Above all, the event would be attractive for thousands of the football fans gathered at the PGE Arena, including the residents of Gdansk and the tourists visiting the Tri-City - as Tomasz Kowalski, President of the Arena Gdańsk Operator company stated.
The rivals competing in the super-match are not selected by an accident. Both teams played a doubleheader in the first elimination round of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup back in the 1983/1984 season. In the first match Juventus beat the Gdansk team with a 7:0 result, while during the rematch Lechia scored two goals which resulted in a 2:2 draw for a long time during the friendly meeting. The goals were scored by Marek Kowalczyk and Jerzy Kruszczyński. However, Zbigniew Boniek playing for the Juventus team at the time, scored another goal, setting the final result as 3:2. The stadium located close to the Traugutta street hosted Lech Wałęsa, whose name was chanted by the football fans. That match has been thoroughly described from behind the scenes in a book, written by Mariusz Kordek and Karol Nawrocki - “Lechia - Juventus - Więcej niż mecz” [Lechia - Juventus. More Than Just a Match]. On Jul. 29th Gdansk will get a chance to compete against Juventus once again, in order to repeat the match from September 1983.
“Our fans and supporters have been waiting for a friendly match which, besides the regular league matches, would make it possible to create great emotions within the White-Green audience. We are quite sure that the rematch with Juventus, in Gdansk, is going to do it” - according to Maciej Bałazinski, Lechia Gdańsk SA’s managing director.
Before they come to Poland, the Juventus players are going to play a sparring match against Borussia Dortmunt (Jul. 25th), on Aug. 1st they are going to compete against Olympique Marseille.
Lechia Gdansk is going to take part in the LOTTO Lubelskie Cup at the beginning of July.
The team is going to compete against FC Shakhtar Donetsk and AS Monaco or Hannover 96, with the latter teams selected depending on the result of the
first match. The tournament is going to be organized in Arena Lublin on Jul. 4th -- 5th. The tickets are still available via the www.booklik.com website and the Arena Lublin ticket offices.
We shall recall the fact that the first Super-Match that was organized within the PGE Arena involved FC Barcelona. Then the match resulted in a 2:2 draw. One of the goals was scored by the Lechia captain at the time - Jarosław Bieniuk. Last year the Super Match was organized at the National Stadium in Warsaw, the football fans could admire the Champion’s League winner, Real Madrid, fighting against ACF Florentina (1:2), with Rafał Wolski in the line-up.
