PGE ARENA among the best sports facilities in the world!

On 22 October, at the evening gala of 23rd IAKS Congress in Cologne in Germany the most important awards were granted as regards the sports architecture. We are pleased to inform you that PGE ARENA Gdańsk climbed on the podium of the best sports and leisure facilities in the world! The amber stadium was also granted the award for the disabled-friendly facility.

The competition has been organised since 1987 by IAKS International, the International Olympic Committee (IOS) and the International Paralympics Committee (IPC).

This year more than 97 facilities from different countries were offered. 31 of them were also competing for an award for the best facility without barriers. Among the offered facilities there were winners of the Polish edition of the competition: PGE ARENA Gdańsk, National Stadium in Warsaw and the Spectator and Sports Hall in Gdynia.

The international chapter of the competition awarded two of them: The National Stadium and the stadium in Gdańsk.  PGE ARENA, as the only facility in Poland and one of the three facilities in the world received this year as many as 2 awards! Bronze for the best sports and leisure facility (in the category of stadium) and the award for the disabled-friendly facility.

- Local patriotism and the heart for ages have been telling us that PGE ARENA is a beautiful facility. Beautiful and modern – emphasizes a deputy president of Gdańsk, Andrzej Bojanowski, who together with Tomasz Kowalski, the chairman of the Arena Gdańsk Operator, received the award in Cologne.  - For this reason, these distinctions enjoy double, since they are a proof that our opinions are shared by specialists.

- A functional and at the same time exceptionally beautiful facility is a valuable asset for each administrator. The award we have just received in Cologne confirms success of the architects of the amber stadium. Our role, as the Operator, is not to squander this potential and to make PGE ARENA live using all of its capacities and abilities – says Tomasz Kowalski, the Chairman of AGO.

On the official gala the representatives of IKAS Poland were present.

- It is a considerable distinction for the Polish sport and the Polish sports infrastructure. Winning such a prestigious award by our domestic stadiums shows how many positive changes have been introduced to our country how the sports infrastructure has developed in recent years. Winning two awards against such competitors fills with pride. The Polish stadiums competed with facilities built as part of preparations to the Olympic Games London 2012 - said Zbigniew Klonowski, the Chairman of the Association IAKS Poland.
